H1N1 FLU ADVISORY FOR SINGAPORE INTERNATIONAL WATER WEEK 2009 DELEGATES & TRADE VISITORS

Dear Friends/ Delegates / Visitors

The response for Singapore International Water Week 2009 has been very encouraging despite the challenging global economic situation and global outbreak of Influenza A (H1N1).

Some 10,000 delegates and trade visitors, more than 20 ministerial-level attendees, about 300 water experts and over 400 participating companies are expected to attend the Water Week at Suntec Singapore. Thanks to your strong support, we are confident that it will be a very successful event for all of us.

We have been keeping close tabs on the Influenza A situation from the onset.  On 12th June 2009, Singapore had 6 confirmed cases of Influenza A (H1N1-2009) bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 27.  26 of whom had travelled to Singapore from overseas. One case was the close contact on one of these cases.

To ensure your well-being at the Water Week, we are working with Singapore’s Ministry of Health and other government agencies to put in place precautionary measures and plans.  These measures include stationing medical professionals and providing a medical facility at Level 1 of the event venue as well as seat tagging and bar-code scanning for key events during the Water Week. As advised by the Ministry of Health, we urge all individuals to maintain a high standard of personal hygiene and take personal precautions such as wearing surgical masks and seeking medical attention if you are unwell.

More updates and information on Influenza A can be found in the website of Singapore’s Ministry of Health at www.moh.gov.sg.  For your convenience, we have also set up three 24-hour hotline services from 22 to 25 June 2009 during the Water Week to address your queries and will continue to update you on the latest developments at www.siww.com.sg.  The hotline numbers are:
