Official Opening of Punggol-Serangoon Reservoirs

Come join us at the opening of Singapore's latest reservoirs.  A sustainable water solution for cities, the Punggol-Serangoon Reservoir Scheme encapsulates all aspects of water being treated as a precious resource and an environment asset planned and developed in tandem with the changing urban environment.  Developed in one of the most rapidly growing housing areas in Singapore, the Punggol-Serangoon Reservoir Scheme is a water supply project to maximise local catchments by tapping storm surface runoff from the north-eastern part of Singapore. It involves the development of Punggol and Serangoon Reservoirs by damming up the river mouths of Punggol and Serangoon Rivers respectively. With a catchment size of more than 5,500 ha, these two reservoirs will increase Singapore's water catchment to two-thirds of its land area.

Date: 3 July 2011 (Sunday)
Time: 9.00am – 11.00am
Venue:   Serangoon East Dam, off Lorong Halus/Pasir Ris Coast Industrial Park 6

Sembcorp Water Technology Prize – Prize Presentation Ceremony(By Invitation Only)
The Sembcorp Water Technology Prize is a seeding programme that targets to cultivate and expose students from Secondary Schools to Junior Colleges in developing water solutions to address pertinent challenges facing the water industry. This year, students will create innovative water solutions along the theme of membrane and bioreactor technology. Over a period of five months, teams will build their own hollow fibre membrane systems and explore means of reducing energy consumption in them.

Sembcorp Water Technology Prize was launched at the Singapore International Water Week 2010. It is sponsored by Sembcorp Industries and co-organised by PUB – Singapore's national water agency, the Nanyang Technological University's Singapore Membrane Technology Centre (SMTC) and Singapore Polytechnic (SP).

This inaugural national competition has attracted 40 educational institutions and will be held on 2 July 2011, 10:00am at the NEWater Visitor Centre. The winners will be announced at the Young Water Professionals Reception cum Award Presentation on 4 July 2011, 3.30pm, Suntec Convention and Exhibition Centre Level 2, MR 209.

Launch of Asia-Pacific Water Safety Plan Network
The Asia-Pacific Water Safety Plan Network brings together a group of stakeholders that promotes the widespread implementation of drinking-water safety plans in the region. Conceptualised since June 2010, extensive work has gone into the consultation with various stakeholders, advocacy in regional conferences and the development and collation of a knowledge base to make this Network relevant to organizations or individuals interested in implementing or support the implementation of water safety plans. The official launch of the Network, together with its website on 05 July 2011 is a significant milestone that marks the beginning of an exciting collaborative journey for all stakeholders involved in the delivery of safe drinking-water to communities through water safety plans.

Organized by World Health Organization (WHO) and hosted by the International Water Association (IWA), the launch event is open to all interested parties. It provides a valuable opportunity for all delegates to network and share experiences over a reception which includes a launch video that captures the experiences of six countries in their implementation of water safety plans. Interested delegates are to RSVP with the Network coordinator Ms Mien Ling Chong at chongm@wpro.who.int.
