Thursday, 7 July 2011, 10am - Level 6, Hall 602 The 2010 Global Water Market Report from the Global Water Intelligence has revealed that global mega-trends such as urbanisation, scarcity, and environmental protection have placed the water industry at its tipping point, heavily impacting the ever increasing demand for this precious resource. Increased water demand resulting from population explosion, rapid urbanization and escalating agricultural and irrigation activities have intensified the demand for sustainable water projects in an emerging superpower such as India. Water consumption in India is distributed in various sectors with 92 per cent of water used for agriculture, 5 per cent for industry and three per cent for domestic use. The fact that India being a developing nation with a large population on the negative side of the poverty line and limited access to fresh water resources, is assuming enormous significance. There is clearly an urgent need for action. India has massive needs for investment in municipal water supply systems and wastewater treatment plants for growing cities and for underserved rural population. There is also a concomitant need for India to ensure that water is managed in a much more flexible, prudent and environmentally sustainable manner in the wake of India’s rapid urbanization. Accelerated government financing cum support, improving the existing regulatory frameworks and the importance of public and private partnerships will be the central focus at the India Business Forum. Themed “Challenges and Opportunities ~ Indian Water Sector”, a panel of eminent speakers and distinguished industry experts from both the public and private sectors will be invited to engage attendees in enriching discussions on upcoming State-level water projects, development hotspots, industry trends and policies from different market perspectives. The high level of expertise and experience present at the India Business Forum will also delve into global approaches for India's own water management programs - leveraging global best practices, while still making them relevant to the unique water needs of the local market. This premiere networking event provides a pivotal platform that opens up immense business networking, partnership formation, and deal-making opportunities in India's vibrant water market.
