Menteri Besar on Working Visit to Singapore

SHAH ALAM: Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Dato' Seri Abdul Khalid bin Ibrahim and his team are currently in Singapore attending the World Cities Summit and Singapore International Water Week at the invitation of the Singapore government.

During the visit, he has met up with the companies appointed by the Selangor government to fine tune the details of the project progress. He also met with industry partners who can be leveraged to bring success to the Klang River Rehabilitation and Development program.

During a special briefing with PUB Singapore and other water stakeholders, he reiterated Selangor's commitment to cleaning the 120km-long Klang River and said that a Points of Agreement is expected to be signed within the next two months between the State and the companies it has appointed to work together.

The Selangor government had earlier appointed three companies to carry out a Klang River rehabilitation project worth RM50 billion in investments. It is estimated that the project would take 15 years to complete.

Cleaning up the river would take place within the first two to three years, which involves RM1 billion for treatment and another RM1 billion for development. The companies are TSS-Mako Engineering Sdn Bhd, GJA Engineering and Construction, and Wessex Water I-Bhd Consortium.

The Menteri Besar who had a meeting with Singapore’s Prime Minister and its Minister Mentor previously stated that Singapore is fully in support of Selangor's efforts. "The President of Singapore has also enquired as to the follow up on the project, which shows Singapore's interest and willingness to support us," said the Menteri Besar.
