"The Water Ministers' Plenary" Theme : "Sustainable Water Solutions in a Changing Urban Environment" Our urban environment is constantly changing. Major global trends such as urbanisation, increasing industrial activities, climate change and emerging water contaminants are all exacting enormous pressures on our environment and natural resources. Our water resources, an integral part of our environment and well-being, bear the risk of being locked in a crisis if we continue in this "business as usual" manner. There is clearly an urgent need for sustainable water solutions to adequately balance between priorities of economic growth and environmental sustainability. With the theme of "Sustainable Water Solutions for a Changing Urban Environment", the Water Ministers' Plenary will be the platform for Ministers from different regions to share on water issues faced in their country/region and propose sustainable solutions to tackle these challenges. Representatives from the International Organisations such as the World Water Council will also be invited to share on their organisation's role in providing sustainable water solutions in a changing urban environment. The session will be chaired by Prof Tommy Koh, Summit Chairperson. List of Speakers at the Ministers’ Plenary:

Water Leaders Summit Session 1- "The Water Leaders Roundtable" Title: "Water in the Changing Urban Environment : the Water-Energy Nexus Challenge" With rapid urbanisation, increasing population and economic growth, the world is facing an unprecedented increase in the demands for resources such as water. The associated environmental and social impacts combined with the impact of climatic change have also posed many new challenges to the water futures in our urban environment. While technology has improved remarkably to offer more alternative water solutions such as water reuse and low-energy desalination, much more can be done. It is well known that water and energy are inextricably linked in their production. Yet in many cases, the planning and management of water and energy are often not coordinated and are addressed as two separate issues. The Water Leaders Roundtable will look into key challenges as well as opportunities in the integrated management of water and energy resources. Chairperson : Mr Leon Awerbuch, President, Leading Edge Technologies Confirmed Speakers:
