Philippe joined Pictet Asset Management in 2002 as a Senior Investment Manager to co-lead the Pictet Water investment strategy where he has remained part of the investment team to the present day. From its inception in 2003, he also headed the buy-side investment recommendations for the Pictet Group and later within Pictet Asset Management, for the global Energy & Materials sectors respectively. Also from its inception in 2007, the Clean Energy investment strategy which he co-managed until 2010. As of 2014 he heads for the Advisory Boards for all the various thematic equity investment strategies. He originally joined Pictet Group in its then Institutional Brokerage Services (now Baader-Helvea SA) as an Equity Analyst in 1998.
He began his career in 1978 as a Chemical Engineer at Texaco’s (now part of Chevron) Port Arthur (Texas) Research Labs (Air & Water Conservation Department). He then joined Ciba-Geigy in 1989, where he held managerial positions first in R&D and then production (both within the Pigments Division) in Switzerland and the UK (Scotland). As Investor Relations Manager, he was part of the task force in the successful spin-off of Ciba Specialty Chemicals (now part of BASF) as part of the 1996 Ciba-Geigy and Sandoz merger that created Novartis.
Philippe holds a doctorate (PhD) degree from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH - Zurich), an MBA degree from the University of Strathclyde (Glasgow) and completed postgraduate courses in Environmental Engineering at the University of Texas (Austin).
