The Global Platform To Share And
CO-Create Innovative Water Solutions

Dear Friends,

As we look back on 2019, I would like to thank you for your support of the Singapore International Water Week (SIWW). It has been another fruitful year for us.

Many of you joined us at SIWW Spotlight 2019 (6-7 June). Your strong participation made the event a success, sparking insightful conversations on how industrial water users could improve their water management, as captured in our Special Report. We look forward to continuing the discussions at SIWW 2020 (5-9 July).

With fresh concepts to deliver greater value for our valued participants, SIWW 2020 looks set to be our most exciting edition ever. Our programmes and initiatives will revolve around emerging issues such as climate resilience, resource resilience and smart digital transformation of water utilities. Early bird registration for key events such as the Water Leaders’ Summit (by-invitation-only) and Water Convention will open in February 2020. The Water Convention Advanced Programme, featuring 49 technical sessions and over 400 oral and poster presentations, will be launched then. Look out also for the news on the laureate of the prestigious Lee Kuan Yew Water Prize 2020 in March 2020.

As for the Water Expo @ City Solutions Singapore, I’m delighted to note that over 70% of the space has been committed, including 14 country pavilions and 3 thematic pavilions. To connect regional buyers and distributors with our exhibitors and establish new partnerships, we will be introducing a dedicated Hosted Overseas Visitor and Distributor Programme. Our sales representatives will be happy to share more about its benefits and opportunities.

Given its popularity at SIWW 2018, we will also be bringing back NEWBrew - our uniquely Singaporean tipple made with NEWater - on a larger scale for SIWW 2020. Stay tuned for more details!

From all of us at SIWW, best wishes for the New Year. See you at SIWW 2020!

With warmest regards,

Ryan Yuen

Weathering climate change:
How PUB, Singapore's National Water Agency does it

In his National Day Rally speech in August 2019, Singapore Prime Minister, Mr Lee Hsien Loong said, “Climate change… is one of the gravest challenges facing humankind... Singapore is already feeling the impact [and] this will very likely worsen over the next few decades… So what can we do? Three things: understand climate change, mitigate climate change, and adapt to climate change.”

Join us at SIWW 2020 to learn more about Singapore’s efforts to tackle climate change, which include the Stamford Diversion Canal (SDC) and Stamford Detention Tank (SDT). These are PUB’s major drainage projects designed to enhance flood protection for Orchard Road, Singapore’s famous shopping district. The SDT, which will be part of the SIWW site visits, can hold up to 38,000m3 or 15 Olympic-sized swimming pools of stormwater, which can be emptied in four hours to prepare the tank for the next heavy rainfall!

The Water Environment Federation (WEF), the National Association of Clean Water Agencies (NACWA) and the Water Research Foundation (Water Research) have partnered with SIWW to offer the SIWW 2020 scholarship to water practitioners from the US. This initiative provides exposure to global innovation to break down barriers, accelerate technology transfer, and create an understanding of innovative policy options to enable water resource recovery.

High-level utility managers (including General Managers and CEOs) of US water or wastewater utilities, with membership/subscriber affiliation with WEF, NACWA or Water Research, should apply by 10 January 2020. Applicants must also have interest and experience in the areas of climate resilience, resource efficiency and/or SMART utility.

Scholarship recipients will comprise the US delegation of utility leaders attending SIWW 2020 (5-9 July), with access to all SIWW events, including special site visits and other exchange opportunities. All travel, lodging and registration expenses will be covered.
