Hu Qing is a professor at the School of Environmental Science and Engineering at Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) and the director of the SUSTech Engineering Technology Innovation Centre (Beijing). She holds a PhD in Environmental Chemistry, Environmental Pollution, and Hydrology from Imperial College London.
Professor Hu has over 30 years of research and work experience in the fields of ecological and environmental protection. Her research focuses on the applications of big data and other advanced technologies in environmental field, low-carbon wastewater treatment technology, city carbon neutral, city sustainable development planning, green and sustainable soil remediation, environment-related standards\policy\strategy, circular economy, etc.
She has received top-tier awards in China, including the First Prize of National Invention Technology Award in 2023, the Second Prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award in 2017, and the IBM Faculty Award in 2016. Her career spans academia, industry, and the social sector, and she has dedicated decades to both academic and community endeavors.
Professor Hu is highly recognized for her professional expertise and extensive network within academia, NGOs, UN systems, and the private sector. She has served on several prestigious committees, including the Stockholm Water Prize Nominating Technical Committee and the IWA World Water Congress & Exhibition Programme Committee. Additionally, she has been working with the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank since 1999.
