Mayank Kaul

Managing Director & Head of Real Estate Risk, Asia Pacific, Europe, Middle East & Africa, Citibank

Dr. Mayank Kaul is the head of real estate risk for Citibank, Asia Pacific and EMEA for the Institutional Clients Group. He is responsible for managing Citibank’s real estate lending portfolio in the APAC and EMEA region. Prior to taking up this role, Dr. Kaul was a Senior Relationship Manager of Corporate Banking in Hong Kong responsible for covering all real estate clients in Hong Kong.

Mayank joined Citi in 2002 in India after completing his MBA and was part of the corporate finance and capital markets team, with a focus on securitization and structured finance covering South Asia. Since moving to Hong Kong in 2007, Mayank worked on real estate financing opportunities with a variety of sponsors, including real estate private equity funds, REITs and developers. He has experience across multiple asset classes, different financing structures as well as financing across both developed as well as emerging markets.

He completed his Doctorate of Business Administration (DBA) from City University of Hong Kong in 2015 focusing on the role of sponsors, organizational structure and impact of the global financial crisis on the debt financing decisions of Asia Pacific REITs. He is an active member of Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and Urban Land Institute (ULI) and is also an Adjunct Associate Professor at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST).

Since 2020, Mayank has been engaged in various climate risk and ESG initiatives. He obtained the Sustainability and Climate Risk certification from Global Association of Risk Professionals (GARP) in 2020 and is part of the Organizing committee for the HK ESG Taskforce for Citi. He has also been involved in various initiatives on climate risk both in Hong Kong and globally.
