Monica Emelko is a Professor of Environmental Engineering and the Canada Research Chair in Water Science, Technology & Policy at the University of Waterloo. She holds BSc degrees in Chemical and Environmental Engineering from MIT, an MSc in Civil Engineering from UCLA, and a PhD in Civil Engineering from the University of Waterloo. Her research is focused on drinking water supply and treatment and risk analysis for public health protection. She has advised the U.S. National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine; U.S. EPA; Health Canada; and several Canadian provinces regarding drinking water treatment requirements and health risk assessment, as well as source water protection and climate change adaptation. She is the Scientific Director of the forWater NSERC Network for Forested Drinking Water Source Protection Technologies and the co-lead of the Southern Rockies Watershed Project team, who were the first cited by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change for identifying quality-associated threats from climate change-exacerbated wildfires to drinking water security.
