Keppel Marina East Desalination Plant

Keppel Marina East Desalination Plant (KMEDP) is Singapore’s fourth desalination plant. Located strategically in close proximity to both the sea and the urban catchment (Marina Reservoir), KMEDP is Singapore’s first and only large-scale dual-mode desalination plant, built with the ability to treat seawater or freshwater drawn from the reservoir depending on prevailing weather conditions.

With a production capacity of 137,000m3 (or 30 million gallons) of fresh drinking water per day, KMEDP is developed under a Design, Build, Own and Operate arrangement, with Keppel operating KMEDP for 25 years.

KMEDP features a modern and innovative design that breaks away from those of conventional water treatment plants and allows the plant to be seamlessly integrated into the natural environment. The plant achieves multiple land use, with treatment facilities situated underground and a green roof integrated with public open space for community recreation.
