Coastal Protection and Flood Resilience Institute (CFI) Singapore

The Coastal Protection and Flood Resilience Institute Singapore (CFI) is a leading multi-institutional Centre of Excellence advancing cutting-edge research in coastal protection and flood resilience. Hosted by the National University of Singapore, CFI brings together key partners including Nanyang Technological University, Singapore University of Technology and Design, Singapore Institute of Technology, the Agency for Science, Technology and Research, and the Technology Centre for Offshore and Marine Singapore to strengthen Singapore’s position at the forefront of global climate resilience efforts.

As a key national initiative under the Coastal Protection and Flood Management Research Programme (CFRP), CFI plays a pivotal role in advancing research and innovation to address long-term coastal and flood challenges.

CFI currently oversees 19 research projects addressing critical challenges across four core domains: Coastal Science Research; Monitoring, Prediction and Digitalisation of the Coastal Environment; Integrated Nature-based Solutions; and Innovative Engineering Solutions. These domains collectively drive science-based solutions, data-informed decision-making, and forward-looking strategies for resilient coastlines and flood resilience.

Alongside its research, CFI fosters a dynamic ecosystem through international collaborations and industry partnerships, while advancing education and professional training in coastal engineering and flood resilience through its partner Institutes of Higher Learning.
