Profile of Mr.Ajay Jain

Mr. Ajay Jain is a B.Tech in Electrical Engineering from IIT Delhi which is the India’s premier Technical University. He joined the Indian Administrative Service in 1991. He has worked in the districts of Andhra Pradesh in various capacities which include Collector & District Magistrate of Kurnool & Rangareddy.

Shri. Ajay Jain has more than a decade of experience in the Power Sector across the value Chain. He was the Managing Director of APGENCO from 2004 to 2009. APGENCO was the third largest public owned power utility in India. He has also held the position of Chairman & MD of APTRANSCO, the Transmission Utility from 2009 to 2012 and now Principal Secretary of the Energy Sector since 2014 June.

In the capacity of the Energy secretary, he holds the Chairman position of the State Power Generation Company (APGENCO), the State Renewable Energy Agency (NREDCAP) and the Gas Power Corporation (APGPCL). He is also responsible for Transmission (APTRANSCO) & Distribution (APEPDCL & APSPDCL) of electricity in the state through the respective licensees.

As head of APGENCO he was instrumental in starting the first 2x800 MW Super Critical Thermal Unit at Krishnapatnam in Nellore district which have been successfully commissioned.

Andhra Pradesh has taken the lead in Renewable Energy by standing first in the country in 2016-17 by record capacity addition of 4000 MW (2187 MW of Wind and 1300 MW of Solar). The world’s largest Solar Park has been commissioned in Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh with a capacity of 850 MW. Another 150 MW will be commissioned in April end.

AP stood first in the implementation of Energy Efficiency Programmes like distribution of LED bulbs to households, replacement of LED street lights in Urban Local Bodies, replacement of energy efficient fans and distribution of Solar Pump sets. AP has also achieved 100% electrification of households and stood 3rd in the country in this aspect.

He was instrumental in the recent ‘Power for All’ program, wherein a joint statement was signed between Government of India & Government of Andhra Pradesh to provide 24x7 quality & reliable power supply to the each and every citizen, farmer & industry of Andhra Pradesh.

Shri Jain is very passionate about the Power Sector and tracks its development through reports, articles & discussions with stakeholders.

In the capacity of Infrastructure and Investment Principal Secretary various Projects of Ports and Airports are being developed on a PPP model.  Similarly, AP Fiber Net has been taken up, a unique Project to provide 15 mbps internet connectivity to each household in the State by hanging fiber over electrical poles.

In the capacity of Principal Secretary, CRDA, the construction of new Capital City ‘Amaravati’ is being taken up after finalization of all the plans.
